The first faction will be the zombies and demons, and the second faction will be an enemy to both the player and the demons.Īs of August 16, 2019, Mad Squirrel Mods has decided to add in a flashlight ability, replacing the Infrared powerup from DOOM II: Hell on Earth.
Meanwhile, the mod will have a second faction of enemies. This is to prevent any unwanted nostalgia from anyone who plays the mod.
The default skin shows Old Doomguy not wearing his iconic helmet, while the other skin has him wearing it. The player avatar will have two skins to choose from. The player will assume the role of the Marine from the classic games, now being referred to as Old Doomguy. New weapons will be added, along with the Plasma Gun (now being dubbed as the Plasma Gun Mk. Every level will have the three-color keys (card keys and skull keys) to open locked doors, and the number of enemies will be higher than usual. Another change will include the ability to jump. Specifically, the player will be able to move the mouse around to look up and down. There are, however, a few modifications that will be included. (Not a problem for me personally)īut who knows, maybe I will make a guide on mouse controls next time. The gameplay for this mod will be no different than that of id Software's The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II: Hell on Earth, and Final DOOM. The only downside of this is that you will only be able to use the original controls. You can now run Doom 2 without all the BS of Steam. The final command tells Dos what file to run "Doom2.exe" The next command "c:" will tell it that you want to use the drive that you just mounted (in this case named "c") The rest is just the folder where your game is stored "c:\my_apps\og\doom2\base" "mount c" will tell Dos that you want to mount a drive and that the drives name is "c"
Next you have to tell it what folder it needs to be looking in. Set it too high and you will have problems with control and sound.įor Doom 1 and 2 I find that 184000 works great. Set it to low and the game will run like a turtle with its legs cut off. The first one is "cycles" which basically sets how fast each frame will render. Let's quickly run down what all of this means.Įvery time you type in "-c" it is telling DosBox that you want to input a command. The file location will already be there ("C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe") so you won't have to type it in. Now where it says "Target:" you will type, Now right click on your new shortcut and select "Properties". Name it whatever you want, but I'll call it Doom2. It will ask what item you want to create a shortcut for, find your DosBox folder and choose DOSBox.exeĬ:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe Now, inside the Doom 2 folder create a shortcut. Now create a folder somewhere in your computer that you will remember. Next go into your folder where Steam games are stored:Ĭ:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\commonĬopy the Doom 2 folder.
Instead go to and install whatever the newest version of DosBox is for whatever device you have(I already have DosBox installed so this isn't something I needed to do) But the version you install when you get it on Steam is terrible. (and I figured that out in less than an hour)Īs you know Doom 2 runs through DosBox.
This is a guide you clicked on with the intent to learn how to play Doom 2 properly.
